Department of Sociology of the University of Brahmanbaria organized a field tour at Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) and Maynamati Shalban Vihara, the archaeological Heritage of the seventh century in Cumilla.

The study tour was organized to integrate academic knowledge of ‘Rural Development’ and ‘Social History and Civilization’ with practical experience and field visits. In this visit, 32 students along with 5 faculty members, participated wholeheartedly to strengthen the teacher-student rapport. Junaed Rahim, the Joint director of the training section of BARD, offered a presentation on ‘ The Linkage of Rural Development and the Achieving of Sustainable Development Goals’ delineating the substantial contribution of BARD to rural development.

The students were enlightened by having the opportunity to visit the Maynamati Shalban Vihara, the ruins of the seventh-century Buddhist complex, to experience the vibrant history of ancient Bengal. Above all, this study tour added new dimensions to the academic knowledge, flourished empirical experience regarding archaeological heritage, and urged the prospects of collaborative research and the opportunity of internship at BARD.
