Exploring the Legacy of Nawab Sir Syed Shamsul Huda (1862–1922)

Gokarna Nawab Bari, Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria.

Department of Sociology – University Of Brahmanbaria organized a field visit on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, to Gokarna Nawab Bari, Nasirnagar. The trip was joined by three faculty members—Rohana Afroz (Head of the Department), Quazi Arunim Rahman (Lecturer), and Mst Sabina Tabasum (Lecturer)—along with selective students.

Nawab Sir Syed Shamsul Huda was a distinguished lawyer, politician, and philanthropist who played a pioneering role in education and social reform in Bengal. As the first Muslim president of the Imperial Legislative Council of India, he worked for the educational and political rights of Muslims, founding schools, colleges, and health institutions that still serve communities today.
The purpose of the visit was to complement classroom learning with practical exposure, exploring intersections of historical preservation, cultural traditions, and community life. Students observed the institutions established by Nawab Shamsul Huda and learned how his legacy continues to shape the local community.
The people of Gokarna Nawab Bari, including his grandchildren Syed Ajad and Syed Riyad, warmly welcomed the delegation, sharing experiences that enriched the trip.
The Department of Sociology expresses gratitude to the Honorable Vice Chancellor and University authority for their support, and to the people of Gokarna Nawab Bari for their generous hospitality, which made the visit truly meaningful.
