University of Brahmanbaria Celebrates 54th Independence Day with Due Enthusiasm and Patriotic Fervor

University of Brahmanbaria (UoB) recently
commemorated Bangladesh’s 54th Independence Day by holding a discussion meeting, a
prizegiving ceremony, and an Iftar party.
While Prof Dr Syed Shamsuddin Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of University of Brahmanbaria,
presided over the event, Prof Fahima Khatun, Treasurer, University of Brahmanbaria, attended it
as Chief Guest. Dr Alamgir Kabir, Professor of Mathematics and General Secretary of the
Teachers’ Association, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), was the chief
discussant who highlighted the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and reminisced about the
contribution of the Bangabandhu towards achieving our independence under his undisputed and
unwavering leadership. At the same time, Prof Kabir recollected the glorious role Mr R A M
Muktadir Chowdhury (a wounded liberation war veteran, Minister for Housing and Public
Works, and Founding Chairman, Board of Trustees, University of Brahmanbaria) played during
our War of Independence. Other attendees at the Discussion Meeting included, among others, Mr
Akhtar Zaman, a Trustee Board member and philanthropist, the Registrar of the University,
Professor Md Merazul Islam, all Faculty Deans, Department Heads, Faculty Members, Officers,
Employees, and Staff of the University. Prof Manbardhan Pal, an adjunct faculty at University of
Brahmanbaria, also spoke at the discussion meeting, focusing on the significance of our historic
freedom movement.
The Discussion Meeting was followed by a prizegiving ceremony among winners of a quiz
competition organized on the theme of our War of Independence and winning participants in an
interdepartmental sports competition. Notably, the English Department students bagged almost
all the prizes in different categories.

Later, an Iftar Party was hosted by Prof Fahima Khatun, Treasurer, University of Brahmanbaria.
The University of Brahmanbaria family and a host of other dignitaries, including the Deputy
Commissioner of Brahmanbaria District, Police Super of Brahmanbaria, Mr Mahbub Hossain,
Upazilla Awami League Secretary, Brahmanbaria, and principals of local government and private
colleges attended the Iftar party.
